Rob Tokarz - Biography

(July 14, 1983 - Not Dead Yet)

I’m presently 24 years old and was raised on the South Side of Chicago and grew up in one of its suburbs (Mundelein). All my life I’ve been an artist, but I never realized what I wanted to do. I never admitted it to myself. It took two semesters of college to know I was an artist at heart, and another semester to realize painting was the next best step. And it’ll take all my life to find out if it was all worth it.

I've spent my life, in various ways, fascinated with the human figure. It began in childhood when I would copy page after page of comic books (generally Superman), as time went on (and perhaps puberty) the female figure became the absolute peak of human beauty to me. From tip of the nose, to the curve of the hips, to the slenderness of leg, they created this life-bearing figure of so much variety, that it is inexaustible.

The human creature is one of great power. It can save and kill, it can give birth, it can take it away. It can create masterful works of creativity, even if its only on scrap paper while talking on the phone. Everyone is an artist, everyone is stunningly varied in personality, in build, in glance, in all the subtleties that make up humankind.
