Mother Courage
Conceptual Design
Mother Courage is the story of a family struggling through the painful trials of war. The world of Mother Courage is one that is a ramshackle makeshift world that relies on the tenacity of its title character to survive. Accomodating the technological aspects of the play while expressing that world are the lines of linens and clothes strewn throughout as well as the sewn together projection screen. Beyond that, a backdrop of war propaganda reminds us of the world they are maneuvering through. The set gives a shell for the story, without pulling away from their struggle.
